Asian elephants, spotted deer, barking deer, wild boar, Asian buffalo and Mugger crocodiles. Endemic birds include the Ceylon Junglefowl, the Brown-capped Babbler, the Ceylon Woodshrike and the Black-capped Bulbul in the habitats of the rivers. Muntjac or Barking Deer are more common in Wilpattu than in other national parks. Butterflies observed include the Greater Egg Fly, Greater Orange Shrew, Glad-eye Bushbrown, Blue Mormon, Common Mormon, Common Rose, and Carmine Red Rose.
